(Translation of the blog post on 21st July 2018)
Dear Fujifabric fans,
I am now back in Japan. It is always my precious moment to come back to my hometown, Kofu in Yamanashi Prefecture. I was expecting the cool breeze blowing down from surrounding mountains, but we didn't have a chance. We are experiencing one of the hottest summer in Japan this year!
One sizzling hot afternoon, I went to the cinema to watch the film, ‘Nijiiro Days’ (‘Rainbow Days’), which is originally a Japanese Girls’ comic series written and illustrated by Minami Mizuno. (please find the English site for Rainbow Days here Rainbow Days) The story is about everyday lives of four highschool boys - school days, friendship, romance, insecurity and fun.
The comic series have been translated into many languages such as English and French, and it is one of the popular manga among fans abroad. The series have at last been made into a live-action feature film by a film director, Ken Iizuka and it has been introduced on the screen since 6th July 2018. (please find the official site for the film of Rainbow Days here Nijiiro Days. Only Japanese language available.)
I am delighted to announce to Fujifabric fans that two pieces of Fujifabric’s music are used in the film - Niji (literally means ‘Rainbow’, Single was released on 1st June 2005, 10th song in the 2nd Album, ‘FAB FOX’ released on 19th November 2005)as the film opening theme song, and Baumkuchen (1st song in the 4th Album, ‘Chronicle’ released on 8th April 2009).
Iizuka is known as a director who often uses a technique of ‘letting the lyrics talk’, which means that the words in the lyrics of music depicts the feelings of an actor or actress in the scene.
The film begins with the scene that Natsuki Hashiba, one of the main charcters, gets on a bike and starts pedaling at full speed in the middle of rice field, and Fujifabric’s ‘Niji’ is played along in the schene. Please watch the video above.
Let’s have a look at the lyrics of the song in detail. (Copied from Pages of this blog)
5. Rainbow (Niji)
The weekend, stopped raining rainbow curving in the sky
Thinking of getting on a glider want to fly way
Getting’ sort’ carried away ---, whistling away and stuff
The weekend, stopped raining city’s started changing anew
Ultraviolet rays forming waves, shining down on the city
Became kinda anxious, thinking about you
Out into the distance, wanna make it sound out and see
Resound! The world’s gonna shake!
Wanna shout out, stuff that’s needless to say
Whirl! The world’s gonna smile!
The weekend, stopped raining rainbow curving in the sky
This kinda day, makes me wanna go somewhere far away,
Trample on a can of coffee finally take a step forward
The weekend, stopped raining the city’s started changing anew
Forget the glider my dream’s to get on Thunder Bird
Ride on past New Jersey right through the ozone hole
Out into the distance, wanna make it sound out and see
Resound! The world’s gonna shake!
Wanna shout out, stuff that’s needless to say
Whirl! The world’s gonna smile!
The sky’s gonna be lifted up
The weekend, stopped raining I am starting over
Forget the glider my dream’s to get on Thunder Bird
Ride on past New Jersey right through the ozone hole
Out into the distance, wanna make it sound out and see
Resound! The world’s gonna shake!
Wanna shout out, stuff that’s needless to say
Whirl! The world’s gonna smile!
